Tissue culture comes from the meristem of the plant and is not division or cutting into pieces and growing. It allows clonal amplification of plants which are identical to the parent they are derived from so can be useful for plants that are sterile (bananas) and unlike the division and micropropagation techniques, is sterile and low risk of transferring diseases or unwanted weeds/pathogens which might be present in the soil and roots around the parent plant.
